As Co-Founder of the Africa Unconquered Foundation, I had the profound honour of leading a delegation of Nigeria’s wounded, injured, and sick soldiers as Team Manager for Team Nigeria at the Invictus Games 2025 in Vancouver and Whistler.
This was Nigeria’s second time on the global stage – building on the fire we ignited at Düsseldorf 2023. But let me be clear: this wasn’t about showing up. This was about showing the world what unconquered really means.
These warriors – many carrying scars from counter-terrorism operations that never make headlines – trained through pain, doubt, and logistics nightmares that would break most teams. We flew the green-white-green with zero excuses, zero handouts, and 100% grit.
And they DELIVERED.

Team Nigeria’s Medal Haul at Invictus Games 2025
🥇 1 GOLD
• Rowing – Ruth Simon(She didn’t just row – she dominated. First Nigerian gold in Invictus history? Legacy sealed.)
🥈 1 SILVER
• Sitting Volleyball – Effiom Antigha, Ameh Thomas, Ijigba Robinson, Salisu Damjuma, Dazzi Ayuba Gosa, Iheanacho Joseph, Yahaya Abdulmudalib, Ifeoma Loveleen Nwagbo, Dimka Gloria(This team played like their lives depended on it – because in many ways, it did. Every block, every spike, every dive was therapy.)
🥉 3 BRONZE
• Swimming – Igube Festus
• Rowing – Igube Festus (Double bronze? Beast mode.)
• Rowing (2x) – Dimka Gloria
Five medals. Countless stories. Zero limits.
What the world didn’t see
Behind every medal was a soldier who woke up at 4 AM in pain, just to train.
Behind every cheer was a teammate who carried another’s wheelchair up stairs because “that’s what we do.”
Behind my role as Team Manager was a promise I made to these warriors: “Your sacrifice will not be forgotten. Your comeback will be legendary.”
As a 10-year British Army veteran myself (Afghanistan x2), I know the Invictus flame intimately. But leading Africa’s sons and daughters? That hit different. This was Pan-African pride in motion.
Why Africa Unconquered Foundation exists
We don’t just send teams. We rebuild lives.
• Mental health support for serving and retired soldiers
• Adaptive sports programs across Nigeria, Ghana, and beyond
• Economic empowerment for wounded warriors and their families
The Invictus Games proved our model works. Now we’re scaling it.
To the warriors
Ruth. Effiom. Ameh. Robinson. Salisu. Dazzi. Joseph. Yahaya. Ifeoma. Gloria. Festus.
And every teammate who didn’t medal but fought like champions…
You didn’t just represent Nigeria.
You represented every African child who will now believe that scars don’t define you – strength does.
The world saw you. Africa saluted you. History recorded you.
The real MVPs you didn’t see on TV
🔥 Alvin Atsegwasi – My co-founder at Africa Unconquered. The man who turned “no budget” into “watch us go”. Late-night calls, grant hustling, visa marathons – Alvin was the engine that never stalled.
🔥 AVM Kumzhi, Director of Sports, Nigerian Armed Forces – The senior officer who said “yes” when everyone else saw risk. He cleared every gate, opened every door, and reminded us that leadership is measured by what you do for those who march behind you.
🔥 Coach Chris & the entire technical crew – From poolside at 5 AM to ice packs at midnight. They didn’t just coach bodies; they rebuilt belief systems, one rep at a time.
🔥 Gen CG Musa, Chief of Defence Staff – The man who made it ALL possible. One phone call from the CDS and barriers evaporated. He didn’t just approve the mission; he owned it. This is what happens when the very top says: “Our wounded warriors deserve the world stage.”
To every physiotherapist, driver, chef, admin staff, and volunteer who gave time, money, and sleep – you are the reason those flags rose.
The jersey handover – unscripted, unforgettable
I also had the honour of presenting custom Team Nigeria jerseys to Prince Harry and Meghan, with special little ones made for Archie and Lilibet.
It was pure magic. Harry held his up proudly, turning the “HARRY” on the back toward the cameras for that perfect shot. Meghan did the same with hers and the children’s, beaming from ear to ear. No words, just smiles, flashes, and a wave of Naija love filling the room.

A quiet, heart-warming moment that said everything:
Welcome to the family. 🇳🇬💚
One frame. One feeling. Forever.
