Nigeria’s warriors – serving, retired, and those still fighting invisible battles – just got a champion at the very top.
President Bola Tinubu has nominated General Christopher Gwabin Musa, CFR – the people’s general, the unbreakable force who redefined military leadership as Chief of Defence Staff – as the new Minister of Defence.

This comes on the heels of the resignation of the former Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, due to health reasons. And if anyone can step into those shoes and run a marathon, it’s Gen Musa.
Sir, you didn’t just lead from the ops room.
You led from the heart.
As CDS, you turned Nigeria’s Invictus story from dream to reality.
You green-lit our entry into Düsseldorf and Whistler.
You stood in the arena as Ruth Simon claimed gold, as Festus Igube doubled down on bronze, as our sitting volleyball squad spiked their way to silver.
You broke ground on the Invictus Centre in Giri – a sanctuary that’s already healing souls before the doors even open.

You didn’t just rescue Chibok girls.
You rescued hope for every Nigerian under siege.
You didn’t just earn the Nelson Mandela Exemplary Leadership Award.
You lived it – every strategy, every salute, every sleepless night.
And now, as Minister?
Expect bolder reforms.
Smarter security.
Deeper support for our forces and their families.
Because the people’s general doesn’t do half-measures.
To the powerhouse beside the powerhouse

No victory lap is complete without honoring Mrs. Lilian Gwabin Musa, DEPOWA President and the quiet storm who made the thunder possible.
In Vancouver earlier this year, she wasn’t just there – she was everywhere.

Coordinating care packages that felt like home.
Sitting with warriors through their lowest moments.
Advocating for physio sessions when budgets ran thin.
And as DEPOWA head, she transformed military families from survivors to thrivers – scholarships for orphans, skills for widows, circles of strength for wives who hold the fort at home.
Ma, your work didn’t just support the CDS.
It amplified him.
And now, as the Minister’s greatest ally, Nigeria’s defence just got doubly fortified.
The legacy that keeps building

• Invictus medals: Earned under your watch
• First African Invictus Centre: Your shovel started it
• Security strides: Your blueprint, now national policy
• Warriors empowered: Your promise, fulfilled daily
Gen Musa, this nomination isn’t a promotion.
It’s a nation’s thank you.
From the frontlines to the families, from Abuja to the diaspora – we see you.
We salute you.
We stand with you.
As you step into this role, know this:
The people’s general just became the people’s guardian.
Lead on, Sir.
Nigeria’s future is brighter because of it.
